Update on CHP Requirements for Jefferson, Arapahoe, and Douglas Counties

I wanted to provide a quick update following my conversations today with the Jefferson, Arapahoe, and Douglas County Sheriff's Offices regarding their current processes for Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) applications:

1. Arapahoe and Douglas Counties are currently accepting walk-ins. However, I highly recommend arriving early, as they tend to wrap up around 4:00 PM. If you're still in line at that time, you may be asked to return another day.
2. El Paso, Adams and Jefferson County have confirmed they are only accepting the 8-hour CHP course, and it must be completed with a certified or verified instructor. If you're unsure whether an instructor is verified, please click the link below for more details.

If you reside in Jefferson County and still need to complete the 8-hour course, please reach out to me directly so we can get a class scheduled for you as soon as possible.

As of April 15th, 2025:
Residents of Denver, Broomfield, Jefferson, and El Paso counties are required to complete the full 8-hour Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) course in compliance with new Colorado law.

This mandatory training includes:

• Classroom instruction focused on firearm safety, legal considerations, and responsible carry
• A written examination (minimum passing score: 80%)
• A live-fire proficiency test (minimum passing score: 70%)
• Strict adherence to the Four Universal Rules of Firearm Safety during qualification
